Mr. Kroeckel, “Peppers Seminyak” is one of the most beautiful resorts in Seminyak. Is it easy to manage such an elegant resort that is always one of the most desired in Bali for vacation and honeymoon?
I would not say that it is easy to manage any hotel but I am very blessed to have a fantastic team working with me at Peppers Seminyak. Peppers Seminyak has a great reputation as one of the premier resorts in Seminyak and with that our guests have a certain expectation. To meet, and then exceed, those expectations is what gets us out of the bed in the morning and is such a rewarding challenge.
What sets you apart from other resorts in Bali and what will keep guests coming back to stay with you again and again?
To have a large inventory of well-appointed 3-to-5-bedroom pool villas giving you a very secluded feeling while at the same time being located right in the heart of Seminyak. Our 5-bedroom villas are sitting on almost 1,000sqm with a pool in 15m length making them some of the largest villas in Seminyak. At the same time, our guests have access to all the usual hotel facilities such as 24/7 in-villa dining, spa, kids club and a gym that is open 24hrs / day.
But what really makes our guest coming back are all the people working here at the resort – our staff are truly our best asset of Peppers Seminyak. Being a boutique resort, our staff really make sure to spend time with our guests and to get to know them and this gives us the opportunity to then offer tailor-make experiences for them.
With the changing trends in the Bali tourism industry, how do you see the Peppers Seminyak positioned to these changes?
One of the biggest challenges in Bali is probably the hotel over supply and the infrastructure issues. However, Peppers Seminyak is in an excellent position to face both those challenges. We are uniquely positioned with a large inventory of 3, 4 and 5-bedroom villas which are part of an overall hotel complex. You do not find this in any other hotel in Bali. More families than ever before are travelling to Bali and villas are coming increasingly popular places to stay.
In terms of infrastructure, especially waste management is an issue. Last year, Peppers Seminyak build its own waste center facility. This allows as to recycle all of the hotel’s waste and to minimize our waste sent to landfill. Prior to our waste center we have sent around 60%-70% of waste to landfill but since this year we have managed to reduce this to around only 5%. This is a significant reduction and will help to preserve Bali as a beautiful holiday destination for many generations to come.
Mr. Kroeckel, tell us about your career in the travel industry?
I have been working in this industry since 2009. Over the last 15 years I was very fortunate to have worked in several countries in Asia. I have started my hospitality career in Thailand and have worked since then in Vietnam, China and am currently based at Peppers Seminyak in Bali, Indonesia.
To be able to travel the world and to work with, and meet with people from different countries & cultures on a daily basis is what attracted me first to the hospitality industry. Until this day, this is still what I enjoy most about working in hotels.
What is your definition of success?
I measure my and the hotel’s success with three criteria. How satisfied are you staff working at your hotel, how satisfied are your guests with their stays and how satisfied are your owners with the hotel performance. But for me it really starts all with the staff of the hotel. You need to take care of them, give them directions and support so that in turn they can look after the guests.
What are your plans for the development of the resort?
Before the end of 2024, we will extend our wellness facilities of the resort. We will add a sauna and ice bath facility to our already extensive spa and gym facilities. Besides that, I am currently working on the refurbishment of all villas to be completed by end of 2025.
