Dusit Thani is an amazing hotel chain founded in Thailand that prides itself on its gracious Thai hospitality. Right from the start, you are greeted very warmly, from the hotel’s elegant lounge at Male airport, then the seaplane and speedboat that will carry you away to your dream vacation. You will be welcomed by the entire management team, including the General Manager, to greet you. Exceptional service is provided right from the beginning to the end of your stay here. From day one, the restaurant staff already know what you like: coffees and drinks, cocktails.
Dusit Thani is located on a private island and was built with special care for nature conservation. The island has a total of 99 villas that are evenly distributed along the length of the island, making you feel as if you are the only guests there. Rooms range from beach villas to overwater bungalows. We had the opportunity to stay in an overwater bungalow and a luxury villa with a pool on the beach. With direct access to the beach covered by white and sparkling sand and in the morning you just go out and take a dip in the warm Indian Ocean early to start your day. The villa is spacious, with a really big pool, vast outdoor bathroom, with a bathtub located in the centre. The bedroom is tastefully decorated in a modern Thai style, with elegant high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the beach.
If you really want to treat yourself, there are various overwater and oceanfront villas you can stay in. All of them are situated on stilt platforms and have direct access to the ocean from the deck. The overwater villas have outdoor showers on the deck and are located right in front of the coral reef, while the ocean bungalows have their own private pools. There are two massive 2-bedroom villas that are both on the beach and over the water, available if you are traveling with family or friends and want to share the same common areas.
The best way to get around the island is by bike. It takes about 7 minutes for a bike tour and the resort provides each guest with bikes that are equipped with front baskets to carry your beach bags. We loved how scenic these bikes were – they were perfect for taking pictures!
If biking is not sufficient exercise for you – don’t worry! The fitness facilities on the island are some of the most impressive we’ve seen! In addition to a fully equipped gym, there is also a specially designed outdoor running workout for a quality cardio experience.
The water sports centre also provides all the equipment you need from paddle boards, Sea-doos, flying boards, snorkelling and diving equipment. The resort is a part of UNESCO Maldives Biosphere, which means the reef proper here is an incredible sight. You can spend an amazing time jumping off the docks with full snorkelling equipment and exploring the beautiful underwater life. The reef is shallow and you feel like you’re swimming in a colourful aquarium – full of turtles, reef sharks, rays and whatnot!
If you want to dive into one of the largest infinity pools in the Maldives, look no further! A huge pool perched on the white sandy beach overlooking the ocean, with one special highlight: a huge mangrove tree right in the middle of it. This tree has an iconic status! Before the resort was built in 2012, sailors and boaters used to orient themselves to exactly where they were by this tree without opening the charts. The infinity pool is lined in baby blue to reflect the sky, which looks like it is flowing into the sea.

There is a wide range of exquisite spa options to choose from, and we recommend spending at least a day pampering yourself – you deserve it! The spa is one of the most beautiful and unique in the Maldives. The treatment rooms are set in wooden houses high up amongst the coconut trees. This creates a truly unforgettable spa experience on the island.
Incredible culinary experiences
If you’re a foodie like us, expect nothing but delights! Dusit Thani proudly maintains 4 gourmet restaurants on the island, each with its own unique dining experience. Benjarong is a Thai restaurant founded along with the establishment of Dusit Thani. It is a two-storey building in traditional Thai style located over the water with spectacular ocean views. The top floor serves as a cocktail bar and we found it was the perfect place to grab a drink while watching the sunset. Additionally, the upscale organic vegan restaurant Sala recently opened here on the second floor and impresses with a chiseled design and a great healthy menu served with attitude and style. What makes Dusit’s Thai restaurant unique is that the majority of their staff, including chefs and waiters, are from Thailand, providing an authentic Thai cultural experience. Every table in the restaurant is oceanfront, so guests can enjoy the crashing waves with an unobstructed view of the ocean. The food itself is amazing – as big fans of Thai food, you will find Benjarong as truly authentic!
If you are in the mood for fresh seafood and meat, then the Sea Grill restaurant is just for you. Located poolside, this restaurant offers a range of grilled options for dinner, as well as burgers and sandwiches for lunch.
The Market is Dusit’s third restaurant, where you’ll enjoy the extensive breakfast buffet every morning. Some of the most impressive breakfast dishes we have seen are here, serving everything from pancakes to pretzels to sashimi. Their chia pudding topped with fresh fruit compote was an absolute smash hit, and their champagne breakfast really started our morning off right. They also offer lunch in addition to dinner, with the dinner theme changing each night. On one of these nights we had traditional Maldivian musicians playing for the dinner guests, which was a lovely way to end the evening. The amazing selection of food on the island will keep you satisfied and full throughout your stay.
